word of the week!! im now very much interested in this new word i came across :: wanderlust (wndr-lst) n. : A very strong or irresistible impulse to travel. now, this is something which i think i share with SID and KENDY!
yay! KENDYs written an entire blog entry on our friendship - aint it realllly sweet of her? well, the following lines (ive got them from an email) are posted cos kendy wanted them: It speaks of A NEW ATTITUDE:: ------------------------- ------------------------- ----------------
To those of you who have pushed me, thank you. Without you I would have fallen. To those of you who laughed at me, thank you. Without you I wouldn't have cried. To those of you who just couldn't love me, thank you. Without you I wouldn't have known real love. To those of you who hurt my feelings, thank you. Without you I wouldn't have felt them. To those of you who left me lonely, thank you. Without you I wouldn't have discovered myself. But it is to those of you who thought I couldn't do it; It is you I thank the most, Because without you I wouldn't have tried.

to LOVE or not to LOVE ??...
05.11.04 (6:03 am) [edit]
well, LOVE is one of the most widely discussed, (mis)interpreted and manipulated term. but what ive to say is something different. its about this quote i chanced to see on the Internet today:
"Men have strength, Miss Ferenczi said, but no true magic. That is why men fall in love with women but women do not fall in love with men: they just love being loved." --from Gryphon by Charles Baxter
now the thing is that i have absolutely ZERO experience in matters of the heart. but after reading this, ive been thinking if this statement can actually be true or not. as much as i would not like it to be, it would be a really sad scene if this scary thought were true. im really wondering if women are more capable of giving heartbreaks than men!
let me know what you think...

free will!
05.10.04 (5:06 am) [edit]
i think this is the best thing that all of us possess - the free will to think and act as we find fit. come to think of it, most of our great men were staunch believers and supporters of free will too.
theres a funny movie in which Jim Carrey becomes God for a week (Bruce Almighty). God while handing over powers to him, only gives two caveats:
1: Do not use your powers for evil purposes
2: Do not **even try** to use your powers against free will!
forget the story and the movie, im now convinced of its importance more than ever. hmm, too much blabbering now - ifu wanna know what i did in the weekend, check here.
and yes, i bought this paperback titled "first-time around the world", a rough guide book. well, im getting serious about the world tour (see the last entry of this blog) now, and this was the first step. long live free will !!

laissez-faire
05.05.04 (11:48 pm) [edit]
lais·sez faire also lais·ser faire Pronunciation Key (ls fâr, lz) n.
Noninterference in the affairs of others.
[French : laissez, second person pl. imperative of laisser, to let, allow + faire, to do.]
well, ive discovered (the hard way, like its always happened to me) that this principle is the best you could ever follow in life to have peace of mind! JUST MIND YOUR OWN BUSINESS and you can be the happiest person ever! i hate to say this, but this trait is found less in my compatriots and more in the western world. but you should give credit where its due, wotsay?

unable to stay, unwilling to leave..
05.03.04 (4:45 am) [edit]
well, this was our situation when we ended our overnight houseboat cruise in the backwaters of aleppey district, kerala (30 apr - 1 may). i did know that my home state was a beautiful one, but was ignorant to the fact that it was SO very enchanting until i went on this holiday. believe me, kerala is "God's own country" indeed! we took off shorlty before lunch (which was to be served on board) and were to be back after breakfast next morning. the luxurious facilities in the two-bedroom boat including a resting deck on top, and great food (talk of fish freshly caught from the backwaters fried for you on the spot) added to the enjoyment of the scenic beauty around us. this was one trip where things just kept getting better all the time :)
we sailed through miles and miles of backwaters enjoying the view of coconut groves and paddy fields on both sides. no mobiles, no meetings not even a sound of industry except for the soft purr of the wonderfully silent 40 hp Yamaha engine- just we and the water and the birds and trees! my parents were enjoying the celebration of 25 years of marriage this way :) temples situated on islands, small and big wooden row-boats (and soemtimes huge motorboats) carrying men and material around the "venice of the east" (aleppey's geographical epithet), birds diving for their fish feast etc were some of the sights and sounds we took in.
the crew were excellent, non-intrusive gentlemen who showed us the best of nature, and conjured up amazing traditional food. in the night there was no sailing - the houseboat was anchored in a beautiful and quiet part of the lake - well, we actually crossed two of the largest backwaters of kerala (both full of salt-water!). it was literally a night's sleep in the nature's lap what with the houseboat lightly swaying in the waves, the sound of birds and the occasional thunder and lightining signalling distant rains.
the best of the experience was the next morning's beautiful sunrise. it was just awesome - the greenery around, the sun's rays (first red-orange and then golden) falling in the green water making it shine, the chirping of birds - all thats written in books and more! im no poet, but couldnt help wondering how little time we devote to enjoy and appreciate the gift that is mother nature.
anyway all good things must come to an end, and after breakfast we came back to the shore but not before living the twenty-two hour long dream. how i wished to share the magic with everyone as we were driving back! another great thing about this tour was that i got to drive our new car almost the entire length of the road trip - to aleppey and back, through the well-laid roads of kerala with greenery all around. there is some truth in "India Shining", the four-lane roads made me think. my parents and sis were so happy that id arranged for this beautiful getaway and this made me very, very glad :) the snaps will be here soon!
